Swaddling For A Savior

Daily Reading // Luke 2:1-7

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to threw times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Luke 2:7 (NKJV) And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

I was thinking this morning about the swaddling cloths which we so quickly associate with the nativity. As a good mother, Mary swaddled her new little baby. How strange to think of the God of the universe in a onesie.

I got thinking about other pieces of cloth that would replace that swaddling cloth through Jesus’ life.

  • He was wrapped in swaddling cloths at His birth.

  • He wrapped Himself in a servants’ towel and washed the disciples’ feet.

  • He was clothed in a scarlet robe and ridiculed by the soldiers at His crucifixion.

  • He was wrapped in burial cloths and placed in a tomb.

  • He is coming back in a robe with the writing on it: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (Rev 19:16).

That might make a good sermon some day.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Lord, You took on vulnerability, servant hood, ridicule and death for me. You will return as conquering King! I submit to You today. Amen.
