1 Samuel 26:10-11 (NKJV) 10 David said furthermore, “As the LORD lives, the LORD shall strike him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall go out to battle and perish. 11 “The LORD forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the LORD’s anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go.”
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
At God’s direction, David had been anointed by Samuel as the next king of Israel. He had been unfairly treated by Saul. He was now on the run and in hiding because of Saul.
God had removed His blessing and favor from Saul. Why? Because he took things into his own hands regarding the sacrifice. He should have waited and trusted in God.
What was David unwilling to do at this time? Take things into his own hands. He was going to trust in God and wait on Him no matter what.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
My destiny is in God’s hands. I don’t want to take it in my own hands.
Think about this account of David. If I was in the same situation would I have done the same thing? It would be very tempting to take care of your enemy and speed the process of your promotion. But David didn’t do it. By waiting he trusted the Lord in the process, not just the outcome.
When David did become king he had the benefit of knowing God made him king, not that he made himself king. What a huge benefit that is!
Trust God in the outcome and in the process. Don’t take things into your own hands
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Father, I trust You today with the outcome and the process. You are rightly the God of destiny! Amen.
