S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Jeremiah 12:2 (NKJV) You have planted them, yes, they have taken root; They grow, yes, they bear fruit. You are near in their mouth but far from their mind.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

“You are near in their mouth but far from their mind.”

In other words, they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk.

This was one of the assessments made of the people of Judah. They talked a good game but didn’t play it out. Talk isn’t enough. Talk is cheap. When it really came down to it their mind was on themselves, not on God.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

I must take this warning to heart. This could be me. God not only hears my words but He knows my mind and He knows my heart. Does He see consistency or inconsistency in me?

Does my walk match my talk?

It’s easy to talk about loving my enemy, but do I? It’s easy to talk about putting my trust in God rather than bank accounts, but do I? It’s easy to talk about storing up treasure in heaven rather than treasure on earth, but do I? It’s easy to talk about seeking first the Kingdom of God, but do I?

Talk is cheap. What is my heart saying to me today?

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, You came to change my heart, not my vocabulary. Search me and know my heart today. Give me courage to live according to Your words. Amen.
