S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

2 Samuel 14:14 (NKJV) “For we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.”

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

There were laws in Israel that had to be followed. Guilt had to be punished. As an alternative to judgement some, like Absalom, went into exile and banishment.

Only the compassion of the king could override judgement.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

This true story from the life of David seems like the first version of the prodigal son. A son who was distanced by his father because of his poor decisions and a desire to return.

In this version the Father sent for his son to return and removed the judgement from him.

The line from the verse: “God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him” is poetic and prophetic.

God has devised means so that the banished ones can return to Him and not face judgment. That’s why Jesus came.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, Thank You for removing my judgement and restoring me from banishment. Amen.
