O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
A couple of things stuck out to me in this short verse today.
First, that the God of peace will crush Satan. I find the wording interesting. That the God of peace would crush someone seems a little counterintuitive. But then, sometimes the way to peace is to remove someone who destroys peace.
Second, this verse seems to draw from the words given to the serpent - the deceiver - Satan - in the garden. In the NIV “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
Jesus will crush Satan’s head and He will do it under our feet.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Sometimes peace comes through great violence. The crucifixion is the ultimate example. God is the God of Peace (Jehovah Shalom). Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
God will accomplish lasting peace in His time and in His way. There is no doubt about it.
Notice it says, “God will crush Satan under your feet.” He will initiate it. He will accomplish it. I may be involved but I will not lead the charge.
This is not permission for violence. It is a confident assurance of peace.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Lord, Use me to bring about Your peace. Amen.
