Daily Reading // Isaiah 49:14-26
READY // SILENCIO
Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.
READ // LECTIO
Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.
REFLECT // MEDITATIO
Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
Isaiah 49:25 But thus says the LORD: "Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, And the prey of the terrible be delivered; For I will contend with him who contends with you, And I will save your children.
This verse really resonates with me for two reasons:
I will contend with him who contends with you; and
I will save your children
We live in a very contentious time. I would even say that largely defines the culture in which we are living. It is a culture of contention. People are defining themselves by their side on the contention divide. Once you have a side you engage the enemy and contend strongly with anyone who is in disagreement.
God says, “I will contend with him who contends with you.” Yes, I know people will contend with you. Don’t let it get you down. And don’t respond in kind. Let me handle it.
The other strong concern I have today is for our children. Children are not being patented well. They are also adrift in this culture of shifting sand where right is wrong and wrong is right. They are caught up in contentions of this culture, but also amidst the contentions of their parents. It seems more common for kids to grow up in divorced homes than in non-divorced homes.
Where is the hope for our kids? Here it is: “I will save Your children.
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
Father, Save me from contention and save our children! Amen.
