Psalms 127:1 (NKJV) A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
There is a divine dependency and divine partnership expressed in this verse.
There were watchmen in the days of Solomon. They kept watch on the walls of the city. They didn’t quote this verse and go to their home and climb in bed. They still kept watch. But they knew their watch meant nothing if God wasn’t in it.
There were builders who built houses. They didn’t leave tools and materials at the job site, quote this verse and return expecting the work to be done. They knew they were dependent on the Lord to do their work. They also knew they could build a building but only God could make it an enduring house; a home.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
Nothing makes sense without the Lord. Everything I do is dependent on Him.
I could rewrite this psalm this way, “Unless the Lord pastors the church, they labor in vain who pastors it”. I imagine any occupation or endeavor could be placed in this verse.
This is a reminder and an encouragement. “Do all you do to the glory of God”. It is all for Him and through Him. Nothing I do makes sense without Him. Everything I do with Him makes sense.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Lord, I need you for everything I do: pastoring, relationships, goals, routines, everything. Work in and through me today. Amen.
