Daily Reading // 2 Corinthians 6:1-3
READY // SILENCIO
Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.
READ // LECTIO
Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.
REFLECT // MEDITATIO
Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?
2 Corinthians 6:2 (NKJV) For He says: "In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you." Behold, now [is] the accepted time; behold, now [is] the day of salvation.
“There’s no time like the present.
“Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today.”
These are a couple of sayings that somewhat express this verse. The most important time I need to deal with is ‘now’.
I can’t let a focus on the past through regret, or a focus on the future through worry rob me of ‘now’. Jesus also said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34 (NKJV)
What is God saying to me now? What is before me now? Deal with that.
I used to have a problem with procrastination. My philosophy was, “Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?” I actually had a well-meaning friend of mine give me an article he found about procrastination and how to overcome it. I never got around to reading it.
I am glad to say that I am much better about that today. It is a discipline for me. I understand much better the importance of now.
In order to live in the now, I have to resist the draw of procrastination and regret and worry. Each of these take the power away from now and place it somewhere inaccessible - in the past or in the future.
Now is the accepted time!
RESPOND // ORATIO
Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.
God, Your gift to me is ‘now’. You have prepared me for ‘now’ and will empower me ‘now’. What does obedience to you look like right now? Speak to me, Lord. Amen!
