The Rare Mortal

Daily Reading // Isaiah 13:1-22

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 12:2 I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold, A man more than the golden wedge of Ophir.

There are mortals all over the place. The people you know, this you work with, even those who are famous — they are all mortals. There are almost 8 billion mortals living on this earth right now. Most of my best friends are mortals. But one day there will be no more. You won’t be able to find even one. Mortality is, by definition, a temporary state. ‘Subject to death’ is what ‘mortal’ means. As Paul said, one day mortality will put on immortality.

We are immortal beings subject, for a time, to mortality. Someday, we will truly be who we were made to be, no longer subject to death. Mortality is temporary. Immortality is forever. Live today like you’ll live forever. Because you will.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, You conquered death and the grave. Death is no longer an end, but a beginning. I trust my eternity in You. Eternity with You is heaven. Eternity without You is torment. Thank You for coming for me.
