S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Proverbs 23:23 (NKJV) Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

There are things that we buy and sell. We call them commodities. Sometimes we try to get a little markup in between to make a little profit.

The truth is not a commodity for personal gain. It should be kept and guarded at all cost.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

My wife enjoys those home improvement shows. An old rundown house is purchased, it’s fixed up and then sold for a profit.

Proverbs says never treat the truth that way. Don’t change it here or there to make it profit you.

I’ve known people who talk about their first car with great affection. They loved that car and today it would be a valuable collector’s item. They wish they still had it and hadn’t sold it.

When you have truth in your life never trade it off. Don’t sell it for some other gain.

There is nothing of higher value than truth.

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. No matter what happens around me I will always esteem and honor truth! Amen.
