The Voice of the Lord

Daily Reading // Psalm 29:9-11

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Psalms 29:7 (NKJV) The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire.

This psalm is all about the beauty and the power of the voice of the Lord. God said, “Let there be light” and there was light. What could be more powerful than that?

Just as the voice of the Lord spoke everything into creation, the voice of the Lord continues to speak with wisdom, power and effectiveness. Nothing can withstand the voice of the Lord.

There was one time in scripture where divided tongues of fire appear. It was on the day of Pentecost. In Moses’ day, God appeared in a pilar of fire by night to guide the children of Israel through the wilderness. On the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 the flames of fire were divided and appeared above each of the believers.

What was once singular in location now resides in each believer. God brought that about by His voice. He spoke it into being.

This event in Acts 2 happened long after David wrote this psalm. He was speaking prophetically.

I need the fire of God in my life today.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Lord, I want to hear Your voice today. Speak to me, in natural and supernatural ways. Amen.
