“You refuse to be ashamed”
You hear a lot about shame these days. Everyone is trying to be rid of shame. Shame is the enemy. Anyone who causes shame is the worst public offender.
In this ‘anti-shame’ world people flaunt shameless behavior. The more shameless the better. Those who would’ve been shamed at their behavior are now countercultural heroes.
Shame has a purpose. We quickly cast it off because we don’t like it but it is there for a reason. It can certainly be out of balance and has to be managed, but it can be helpful if used properly.
But in our society today, we refused to be ashamed.
