This One Shall Be Peace

Daily Reading // Micah 5:2

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to threw times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

The verses following our verse in Micah say:

Micah 5:4-5 (NKJV) 4 And He shall stand and feed [His flock] In the strength of the LORD, In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God; And they shall abide, For now He shall be great To the ends of the earth; 5 And this [One] shall be peace.

And this One shall be peace.

How many seek for peace? How many places are sought for peace?

How many beauty pageant contestants have wanted “world peace” more than anything else?

I remember a very popular bumper sticker years ago said, “Imagine world peace”. Followed up, of course, by the even more popular “Imagine whirled peas”.

Why is it sought so much and found so little?

Two reasons come to mind:

1. Real peace can only be personal

Real peace is a personal, individual peace. If you try to find peace through outward circumstances you will never find it. If you try to achieve peace by political means, military means or diplomatic means, it will never happen. Peace does not work from the outside in, but from the inside out.

World peace can never be attained unless you have a world full of people that are experiencing personal peace.

2. Real peace is a Person

Many people don’t find peace because they don’t realize peace is a Person. His name is Jesus. He stands at the door and knocks. How many people don’t open the door because they are too busy looking for peace? When He is right there the whole time.

Which raises the question: With Jesus in my life I have the Person of peace. Am I experiencing His peace today? He is truly all I need for peace.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, You are the Prince of Peace. When You came You brought “Peace on earth, goodwill to men.” Not a global peace but, more importantly, a personal peace. I receive Your peace in place of any possible anxiety today. Amen.
