He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
Romans 14:6 NKJV
It’s obvious from this text that, in serving the Lord, it’s not so much what you do but why you do it that really counts. Of course, this in in regards to ‘disputable items’ and not obvious points of obedience.
What matters is what I do ‘to the Lord’. Which means my mind is thinking about Him and my decision is based on what He wants me to do.
Do I think through my actions like that? Do I put Him top of my mind when it comes to choosing my actions? I think I should. He should be my first consideration of everything I do, in the things I do, how I treat others, my deeper beliefs.
What am I doing ‘to the Lord’ today? Hopefully everything.
Jesus, I want to do everything ‘to the Lord’ today. Help me see what is for You and what I do that is not for You. Amen.
