S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Job 41:11 (NKJV) Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him? Everything under heaven is Mine.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
Everything began because God said it should begin. He directed it’s beginning.
Everything will end when God says it should end. The timing and circumstances of its ending are entirely up to Him.
Everything belongs to Him and owes it existence to Him. Even what I can create I create out of the resources that He has provided.
Everything is under His control and He does all things well.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
When we talk of ownership it is a limited ownership. I can only own what already belongs to God. While I own it, it still belongs to God. He generously gives me use of it but it ultimately belongs to Him.
A friend of mine is an artist. He goes out into a remote field with an inspiring mountain view and beautifully captures the scene on canvas. It’s one of the most original creations we can imagine. Yet the mountain belongs to God, the field belongs to God, the canvas and the paint were created with God-given materials, his talent to paint is from God, and even the time he took to paint is given by God.
If God were to ‘take His ball and go home’, the game would be over. Everything, including me and my life, belongs to Him.
The greatest thing I can do with the time, material and talents God so graciously gives me is to use them in a way that honors and pleases Him.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Father, Today I think about Your ownership and generous gift of everything. I will choose to be generous like my Father. Amen.
