S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Acts 5:25 (NKJV) So one came and told them, saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
The leaders put the disciples in prison but when they went to get them they were gone. How irritating when a person won’t stay in prison! You make it secure. You post guards. You use the strongest locks but when you return they’re gone. Irritating.
Not only that - those you imprisoned didn’t run and hide but they’re in the middle of town talking about Jesus, the very thing you told them not to do.
Threats, fear, bars, locks, none of those are sufficient to imprison someone who Jesus has set free.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
I’ve got to have the boldness of the disciples. It is foolish to think preaching about Jesus will always be popular, or even legal. Is that a condition on my obedience?
Am I willing to face unpleasant circumstances to stand for Jesus? If not, my obedience is conditional. If so, I just may get a chance to show it.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Jesus, Give me the boldness of the disciples and their sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
