Daily Reading // Isaiah 64:1-12

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 64:7 (NKJV) And [there is] no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities.

Isaiah knows the reason for any distance between God and man is on our side, not His. I simply need to call on His name. I need to stir myself up to take hold of Him.

What does it mean to stir myself up? I think of mom making cookies in the kitchen. She added the ingredients together and then needed to stir them up. Stir requires energy and results in some degree of agitation. Agitation is necessary for making cookies.

The word used here speaks of rousing oneself as if from sleep. Open your eyes. Wake up. Get out of bed. There are things to do. Nothing will get done if you don’t wake up.

Wake up, God is available to you. Put some energy and activity into it. You may feel some agitation at times. This is good! It is the result of being stirred up.

Don’t be passive - sleepy - about your relationship with God. So many are and then wonder why God seems so distant. Even the slightest movement toward God makes a huge difference.

How can I stir myself up today?

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, You came to be close to Me. Show me how I can draw close to You. Amen.
