Wait a Minute

Daily Reading // Isaiah 30:18-33

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 30:18 Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.

Waiting is such an interesting concept. This verse talks about the Lord waiting for us, and about us waiting for the Lord. It goes both ways.

Wait implies hope or promise of something yet to come. We have the phrase, “Was it worth the wait”? Waiting expects a payoff. It isn’t done for nothing. Wait expects a circumstance to get better. Wait is willing to give up further effort for a promise. Wait honors a companion by refusing to go on without him or her.

God waits for me. Am I willing to wait for Him?

The opposite of wait is hurry, or rush. We live in a hurry or rush world, not a wait world. Rush can’t wait, it’s too driven or fearful or unthinking.

Now is as good a time as any. Wait. Slow things down. Think about your hope in God. Think about His direction and guidance in your life. Decide it is foolish to go on without Him. It is far better to wait for Him.

Then realize that He is also waiting for you.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Lord, I would rather wait for You then rush on without You. Teach me to wait. Oh, and thanks for waiting for me. Amen.
