S // SCRIPTURE
Select a verse from today’s reading
Genesis 31:48-49 (NKJV) 48 And Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me this day.” Therefore its name was called Galeed, 49 also Mizpah, because he said, “May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from another.
O // OBSERVATION
Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text
When Jacob and Laban parted, neither trusted the other. Agreements were made and oaths taken. But what good is that without trust?
All they could do was acknowledge God’s watchful eye. I can’t see you but God can. He will watch over your actions and hold you accountable for your promises.
They named the place Mizpah which means ‘watchtower’ or ‘watch’.
A // APPLICATION
How can I apply this to my life today?
When I read this I thought about all the cameras around today. Hardly anything can happen without a mounted camera or a person with a camera catching it. These images and videos are often collected by police and used in criminal trials.
Do you know what is more reliable than all the cameras in the world? It’s God’s watchful eye. Nothing escapes His notice. No one gets past His attentiveness.
If anyone has wronged me, God will notice and He will bring justice. I can trust His watchful eye.
P // PRAYER
Express yourself in prayer
Father, I trust You to watch out for me and my family. Amen.
