What Does God Call You?

Daily Reading // Isaiah 41:1-20

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 41:8 "But you, Israel, [are] My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend.

God calls us by many names. Here are a few:

Servant. This term had a far more positive feel to it in this day than it does today. A servant was much more like a trusted employee, or even a compatriot. It was someone you trusted in and leaned on. It was someone who shared in the good times and bad times together. Wayne Codeiro used to say the quickest way to the King is through the servants’ entrance.

Chosen. We all desire to be chosen. The opposite of chosen is rejected. Rejection is one of the most feared and driving forces in our society. There is a huge difference between someone being with you because they have to be or because they choose to be. God isn’t stuck with me. He chooses to be with me.

Friend. Abraham was called a friend of God. God is open for friendship. He is not distant, disinterested or indifferent. He is looking for those who will be His friend. In John 15, Jesus said, “Now I call you friends.” This is the essence of Christianity and discipleship - friendship with God. Getting to know Him. Spending time with Him. Thinking of Him in my everyday life. Enjoying Him.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, I am so grateful that You are my friend. It is an honor to be friends with You. What do You want to do today, Friend?
