What Else Special?

Daily Reading // 2 Corinthians 5:6-11

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

2 Corinthians 5:8 (NKJV) We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

We love taking our grandkids on special days around their birthday. It’s just a day of fun with Grammy and Grampy. We begin with special treats to eat and have activity after activity lined up. We have been to parks, playgrounds, movies, ceramics/painting studios, trampolines, just to name a few.

When our oldest grandson was preschool age, he was constantly anticipating the next fun activity even while he was in the middle of one. He was somewhat distracted from his current fun by wondering about the fun to come. While doing something special, he would ask, “What else special are we going to do”. We would try to get him to focus on what we were doing but he would ask, “But what else special?”

I would like to apply that to our reading this morning. No matter how much fun you’re having here in this life (or even if you’re not having too much fun at all), the reality is there is something much more special coming up. You can count on it. You can anticipate it.

The Apostle Paul knew with confidence that living this life, in this body, has its limitations. We can enjoy relationships and enjoy this life, but there is something much more special coming up. Living with that sort of anticipation changes, not just your future outlook, but also your current attitude.

I will live each day to the fullest. Not apart from a better life to come but because of it. Yes, Lord, this life is really special - but what else special do you have for me?

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Jesus, You said You are going to prepare a place for me. One day this life will be a distant memory. Help me to make it a good memory. Amen!
