SCRIPTURE:
Gideon said to Him, “O my Lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”
Judges 6:13 NKJV
OBSERVATION:
These words of Gideon really stuck out to me: “the Lord has forsaken us”. Who had forsaken whom? These calamities came about because the people had forsaken God, not the other way around. In fact, we as we keep reading we find out Gideon’s family had set up an altar to Baal and an Asherah pole - pagan worship.
APPLICATION:
It’s convenient to blame God rather than ourselves. ‘Why has God forsaken us?’ How about, ‘Why have we forsaken God?’ There are consequences when we reject God. That’s why God encourages us not to do it. Let’s not blame those consequences on God.
PRAYER:
God, heal our land. Amen.
