Wind and Confusion

Daily Reading // Isaiah 41:21-29

READY // SILENCIO

Take a moment to quiet your mind and prepare your heart for your time with the Lord.

READ // LECTIO

Read the passage above up to three times aloud. Allow yourself to feel the words as they are read.

REFLECT // MEDITATIO

Now direct your focus on the words, phrases concepts or sentences that got your attention. What is God speaking to you today through His word?

Isaiah 41:29 Indeed they [are] all worthless; Their works [are] nothing; Their molded images [are] wind and confusion.

God says through Isaiah that the molded images, the idols, the things that present themselves as a rival to God, are actually nothing more than wind and confusion. Without substance. A similar saying we might use today is ‘smoke and mirrors’. The promises of the enemy, the best efforts of governments and systems of this world, are all a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Wind and confusion can be very distracting, but that’s all it can be. I have to stay focused when the wind and confusion comes. It’s like trying to take a golf shot when there is wind and confusion. You still have to take the shot, but it requires more concentration. Wind and confusion test my ability to concentrate.

There is all kinds of wind and confusion these days. It is caused by both political parties, major news outlets, social media, and all those who are caught up in the whirlwind. Only God - His Word and His perfect purposes - are substantive. Almost everything else is wind and confusion.

Concentrate! You still have to hit the shot. You can do it.

RESPOND // ORATIO

Pray in response to what the Lord has spoken to you.

Father, thank You for substance in a time of wind and confusion. Give me the necessary discernment to separate what’s real from what is just a bunch of hot air. I need You today. Amen.
