S // SCRIPTURE

Select a verse from today’s reading

Psalms 26:8 (NKJV) LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house, And the place where Your glory dwells.

O // OBSERVATION

Why did this verse get your attention? Make a simple observation from the text

David admitted that he loved hanging out at church.

Of course, ‘the habitation of Your house’ in David’s day was most likely the Tabernacle, since the temple had not yet been built. The tabernacle was built to be mobile, for their time of wilderness wandering. Now it was permanently situated in Shiloh.

When David walked into the Tabernacle at Shiloh he would have been transported back to those days with Moses, Aaron and God’s leading through the wilderness. The articles he saw were commissioned by Moses. Joshua had sought the Lord in this very place. Behind that very curtain sat the actual ark of the covenant, where God’s glory was manifested above the cherubim.

A // APPLICATION

How can I apply this to my life today?

Church has changed, for the good and for the bad. And it continues to change.

We no longer have the actual articles of the Old Testament. But it was never about the articles. It was about the glory. “The place where Your glory dwells”. Glory speaks of substance, weight.

When I go to church today, it is still a place where His glory dwells. We have a glory greater than the Shekina glory of the ancient tabernacle. It is the glory of the Holy Spirit that resides in His people (2 Cor 4:7).

Like David, I love going to church. Because it is the place where His glory dwells. Not in ancient artifacts but in His people. “We are His workmanship” (Eph 2:10).

What a privilege!

P // PRAYER

Express yourself in prayer

Jesus, Help me to appreciate the gathering of Your people. There is no better place to be! Amen.
